Origin
FSC European oak arrives with us as raw unfinished planks from a highly specialised mill in Central Europe and another close to home in the UK. The European oak is from a particular forest region, specially chosen by our mill because the climate is perfect, and the soil’s mineral content creates the best growing conditions. All these results in the optimum tannin and patina within the oak essential in Creating our hand-finished bespoke Real wood floors.
We are located near Harrogate in North Yorkshire. As our finishes are hand applied and unique to us and tailor-made the traditional way with natural ingredients and the addition of several modern-day and traditional techniques. Our skilled Craft men lay these finishes by hand, plank by plank, and then leave them to air dry and harden naturally after each process on drying racks.
Manufacturing
Our European oak planks are custom-made to our precise specifications. The top layer of European oak is bonded onto high-quality long-grain, WBP (weather, Boil Proof) FSC plywood from Southern Mediterranean areas to ensure the highest level of stability. as the grain of each piece runs in a different direction from its adjacent layer, this then enhances the plank’s strength and resilience which then reduces the wood’s natural tendency to expand and contract. This means that it is perfect for under-heating systems.
And a “V” groove runs along the length of each plank to add definition, and the plank’s end remains a straight shoulder to protect the end grain. The plank length varies from 0.3m up to 2.8m. and moisture content is between 8-11%
Hand Finishing
The best way to achieve the most beautiful, high-quality oak floors.
Because traditional techniques that our crafts teams use involve hand worked Rasping, Pit distressing, Hand brushing, Ageing, Scraping and Scorching. Patinas and colour pigment processes enable the flooring to become unique to you. To achieve a specific finish, we also work with different natural substances. These substances are not colour based but produce a change in the appearance of the wood by reacting with the natural tannings Etc, contained within each plank.
These changes are based on Smoking, Fuming, Carbonizing, steaming, Natural Greying and ageing techniques. Our techniques are not done using high-volume machine-produced automation within Chinese factories. They’re all painstakingly carried out caringly by our highly skilled craftsmen, Plank by plank by hand in our finishing workshop.
Due to the nature of our hand-finished natural creations, all our special finishes from start to finish are done entirely by hand to order and are not to be confused with paints. The finishes we create show the natural grain and are shade dependent on the individual planks enhancing the beauty of the wood floor and not the repetitiveness of a laminated photograph. Nature is Amazing, as our trees are each, is unique just as god intended.
Hand-packing our Special hand-finished wood floors
As our production is done entirely by hand, plank-by-plank. Includes the packaging of our planks. Your wood floor will arrive in bundles packed together, with any exposed pieces of the oak face will be shrink-wrapped by hand. Packaging hand-finished floors are traditionally bundled. These methods are better for the environment.
